Description: Shockingly frank, The Cement Garden is an adaptation of Ian McEwan’s novel The Cement Garden. A dull gray cube of a house made of monolithic concrete, sticking out in the middle of a post-industrial wasteland strewn with the rubble of destroyed buildings.
Strict and authoritarian father. Weak shy mother. Older children: a boy who looks like a girl (Andrew Robertson) and a girl who looks like a boy (Charlotte Gainsbourg); the younger ones are a silent girl and a boy who wants to become a girl so that he is not offended at school.
Father has a heart attack. The mother falls ill with an incomprehensible illness and also soon dies.
